My Dearest Camdyn,
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. When you’re not happy, skies are gray...”
How is it time for me to sit down and write this letter to you once again? Today you are five. You start Kindergarten in a week. I wonder how it is even possible that another year has passed and now my baby girl is going to go to school with me! You are so excited about being five; apparently, this is the year you’ll “finally be growing up!”
This week, you and I have been reminiscing on the past year together and what you’ve enjoyed the most about being four. You told me that the best part of being four was going to preschool and wearing lipstick (clear lip gloss that makes you feel quite fashionable. Your words). My favorite part of four though is how mature you’ve become. You are kind and compassionate. You are so loving. You are deeply sensitive and in-tune with others’ emotions. You believe in fairness and will fight on behalf of someone else if you believe they’ve been wronged. You are independent and confident. You are giggly, girly, and full of sassiness (you are quick to point out that you are the “good sassy” because the bad sassy will land you in trouble!) You adore dress up, but won’t hesitate to play in the mud. You love to sing and are still obsessed with the Frozen song “Let it Go.” Thank you Disney for making that song. Not. You are so funny and I belly laugh at something you say almost every day! You are an amazing kid and I am so blessed you’re mine.
This year you went to preschool and you surpassed my expectations. You picked up right where you left off in 3 year old Pre-K. You’ve memorized 26 bible verses arranged in ABC order. You also have the 23rd Psalms and the Lord’s Prayer memorized. You know the books of the Old Testament and New Testament in order. You can sing the Star Spangled Banner and you say the Pledge of Allegiance with absolute patriotism. You have tons of sight words memorized and can blend sounds. Your love of beginning reading warms my teacher heart! I am so proud of how hard you work and how you soak up new knowledge. Your inquisitive mind is constantly making connections. When you learn something new you will say, “So Mommy, what you mean is that _____ is the same as _______.” I LOVE how your mind thinks. You are very mathematical. You love to count by fives and tens. You are obsessed with time. You want to know what time it is and how much time is left until the next activity. You are going to adore Kindergarten and I can’t wait to watch you learn this year.
Camdyn, you are such a treasure. You bring me such joy and I am so grateful that the Lord has entrusted me to be your momma. As you grow up, my prayer is that you would fix your eyes on Jesus. For King and Country sing a song that plays on the radio currently. It’s called “Fix My Eyes” and you absolutely love singing it. These lyrics hold such a deep longing for me for your life and I pray that these lyrics would be engrained in your heart.
Love like I’m
not scared
Give when it's not fair
Live life for another
Take time for a brother
Fight for the weak ones
Speak out for freedom
Find faith in the battle
Stand tall but above it all
Fix my eyes on You
Give when it's not fair
Live life for another
Take time for a brother
Fight for the weak ones
Speak out for freedom
Find faith in the battle
Stand tall but above it all
Fix my eyes on You
Jesus won’t be the popular choice and it won’t be easy to stand firm for the Lord as you grow up. Choose to be different Camdyn. Choose the narrow path, the one that isn’t the popular path. Choose to live your life beautifully for the Lord.
I am so proud of you and I love you to the moon, sweet Camdyn.
Love,
Momma
Here are this year’s top 5 funniest memories of you this year.
- Your vocabulary is incredibly large and you love to use new words, even if you haven’t gotten the pronunciation down pat. You say Lose-ually for usually, diz-austed for exhausted and uh-larious for hilarious. My absolute favorite though was the day you learned to use the word situation. You told me that you needed to talk to me about a “Serious shituation”. I nearly choked on my drink! We promptly had a lesson on how to say situation correctly.
- Then of course is a conversation from 6 am:
C: Mom, when can you paint my fingernails?
Me: How about this afternoon?
C: No, we're going swimming, remember?
Me: Oh yeah! How about tomorrow morning then?
C: I think that will work, but I have to go
downstairs and check my schedule.
Me: (trying to keep a straight face) Ok, you
just let me know if your schedule is free.
C: Ok, I'll let you know.
3. After talking with you one day I asked you how you got to be so smart. You told me you learned how to be smart at Preschool. I asked you if I should go back to school there so that I could get smart too. You said, “Oh mom, you should have done that years ago!”
4. I asked you to pick your toys up out of the living room floor. You responded, "I have to pick everything up right now???" I told you to just pick up the big stuff for right now and then went back to loading the dishwasher. When I walked back in the living room, you had a measuring tape out, measuring your toys. I asked you what on earth you were doing. Your response: "I'm measuring all of my toys so I know that I only pick up the big ones."
5. There is one cartoon I won’t let you watch called Spongebob. I think it’s dumb and have solid evidence that it will rot your brain. I’ve told you this so many times that one day, while flipping through channels, you landed on Spongebob and immediately threw down the remote, covered your ears and screamed, “I feel a headache coming! I don’t want to have my brain fall out.”
