The Glider That Wouldn't...

Today was quite aggravating! After waiting a week for our glider to arrive at Babies R Us, we finally got the call to come pick it up at 2 pm today. Bryan had class until 1:45, so he just came straight from class to meet me at the store. I had a bad feeling about it as soon as I saw the box our glider AND ottoman came in. We are talking a square box that a 2 year old would have a hard time hiding in. I even mentioned to the guy who was loading it into our car, "So I take it LOTS of assembly is required." Yep.

We got the sucker home and immediately began the daunting task of assesmbling this huge glider and ottoman out of tiny little wooden parts. Now before I get further into the story, I really would like to say that I have assembled many things in my day. Since when do ALL baby items come with assembly instructions in pictures only - no words, no identifors, just random pictures that you are supposed to make sense out of????

Anyways, I digress. Bryan and I are SO unbelievably frustrated. The directions are as clear as mud, and the whole time we are assembling it, we have no idea if we are doing it right. After wrestling with this beast for 3 HOURS, we snapped the last piece of fabric onto the glider. We smiled proudly at each other - together we had slain this dragon. We rejoiced too soon....

Bryan sat down and craaaccckkk. It was a sound that made my stomach flop. The whole bottom section of our glider had split apart - the wood was unrepairably broken. Arrrgggghhh!!

I called Babies R Us and they will order us a new one once we return the busted one tomorrow. However, the thought of fighting with this thing one more time makes me seriously consider calling my dad and offering to feed him for his building services.

Letter to My Daughter

Dear Camdyn,

Hi sweet girl! It's mommy! I want you to know how much you are loved by your daddy and I. We are so excited to meet you and pray every day that you are happy and healthy when you arrive.

I remember the first time I truly felt you kick. I had felt little rumblings that I thought might be you moving around. But then, you kicked! My whole stomach jumped! I remember giggling! I tried to press on my belly so you would do it again for Daddy to feel it, but you stayed quiet.

Daddy finally felt you when we were in Gatlinburg on a mini-vacation. He was laying down with his hands on my belly, and sure enough, you gave him a good whack! He looked at me, and said with such excitement in his voice, "Was that her?!" It was so precious.

I have felt you every single day since then. You are very active! I like to think you will be athletic like your dad. I call you my little Olympic Hurdler! At first you were only active when I was still, espcially at bedtime. As you have gotten older though, you are more and more busy at all times of the day. Each turn, kick, and punch is precious. I count myself so blessed to be able to feel you every day.

In approximately 8 weeks, you and I will meet for the first time. I can't wait to hold you in my arms and kiss your sweet cheeks. In the meantime, keep growing, keep kicking, and know that your daddy and I are praying for you!

We love you so much!

Love,
Mommy

It's a...we're not sure...

At 21 weeks, it was time to learn our child's gender. Well, she was sitting with her legs crossed and we could see nothing. The doctor pounded on my belly, but she wouldn't move. Her best guess, it was a girl because boys usually paraded around their stuff. She would redo the scan in 3 weeks.

We came back at 24 weeks. She was facing my spine. What?! Best guess, it's a girl since she could make out faint little lines. We weren't about to paint the nursury yellow with butterflies for our son, so we needed to be sure.

We decided to go to Peek a Belly for a 3D scan. I decided to wait 3 more weeks before scheduling the appointment time in hopes that we would get a good picture of her face as well as...err.. her business. We showed up at Peek a Belly - Bryan had issued her a stern warning before going in. His exact words "Baby, you better cooperate if you want anything. We need to know if you are a boy or a girl and if you don't show us, you will not have anything in your room!"

Well, our baby finally listened - a little too well. She put her legs over her head and completely covered her face. The only thing we could tell about her was that she was a girl!

Welcome to the world, Camdyn McKinley!

The Beginning

I was inspired to begin this blog to record the adventures that Bryan and I's life is sure to hold as we are beginning a new adventure in life as parents.

The day we found out we were pregnant, I peed on the stick, thinking that it would come back negative just like all the rest had. You see, we had tried all summer and weren't able to get pregnant. We assumed that it just wasn't in God's plan for us right now and began making new plans. Bryan began going back to school to get his degree and I threw myself into teaching and helping Bryan pass English 101! Just as school was getting out for Christmas Break, I realized I hadn't had a period in quite awhile. I couldn't even recall when my last one was. So, Bryan and I bought a pregnancy test very casually that afternoon. We came home, unloaded groceries, and I took the test. Before when we had been trying, I had camped out in the bathroom, staring at the stick, willing it to show two lines. However, this time, I wasn't even thinking that pregnancy was really a possibility. I left the stick, went into the living room and sat down with Bryan to wait for the minutes to pass. After time was up, I made my way back to the bathroom and saw that the results said I was pregnant. I ran out of the bathroom, saying "Oh my gosh" over and over. Bryan just stared at me - I told him we were having a baby and he said "Are you joking around... no we're not...are you serious?!"
The emotions that we experienced for the next few days were that of a giddy excitement, and a truly scared nature. What were we going to do? We were a one income family now...Bryan was back in school...We just switched insurances and this one didn't have as good of coverage for maternity. Yet, in the midst of all the anxiousness, we felt a peace because this baby was truly a gift from God - precious and perfect and all in God's timing.
It's amazing to see God's hand at work - Since Bryan is back in school, he can stay at home during the day and go to school at night (No Day Care expenses). Our insurance has been just fine so far - it may be more expensive in the end, but the hospital won't respossess our child as we make payments!

We told our families on Christmas, and the look on everyone's faces was priceless. My mother had tears streaming down her face and my father couldn't keep from grinning. Let me just say, those two are going to make an amazing pair of grandparents because they were both such amazing parents. Bryan's mom was stunned as well - she couldn't be happier to be welcoming her first grandchild.
